Youth and Adult Education Resources

DREAM:
Founded by Dartmouth students in 1999, DREAM connects college students with youth from low-income households in Vermont and the Greater Boston area and provides mentoring and youth programs to those children and their families. Programs include year-round outdoors camp Camp DREAM, and planned adventures to places like Florida, Alaska and Washington, D.C.

Sara Holbrook Community Center
The center offers programs for children and adults who are English language learners. Assistance is provided in learning, practicing, and maintaining new language skills through social development, educational and recreational activities.

Lund – New Horizons Education Program

Lund’s educational program is available to pregnant and parenting young women seeking to complete their high school education. The program allows parents the opportunity to bring their children to school with them until the child is six months old. In addition to high school courses, this program incorporates parenting education and financial literacy into the curriculum.

Spectrum Multicultural Youth Program
Services Provided: This program works to connect teenagers and young adults to educational resources in the community, with a focus on youth with multicultural or refugee backgrounds. Students may drop by the Resource Center for homework help, or attend the Next Step Program to prepare for college and other post-high school career paths.

Mercy Connections
Mercy Connections is a nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency through education, mentoring and community building. Programs include English language learning, academic tutoring, general education diploma (GED) support, and many other supportive services.

Somali Bantu Community Association of Vermont
This association is specifically committed to the resettlement and self-sufficiency of refugees and immigrants to Chittenden County. Education is seen as the primary means of “bridging the gap”; thus, the association offers educational, cultural, and life-skill training courses for new refugees.
