First Call for Children and Families 
First Call is a 24/7 crisis phone line for children and families run by the Howard Center in Burlington. The service provides immediate support and intervention through a crisis team for families going through difficult circumstances.

Steps to End Domestic Violence
Formerly known as Women Helping Battered Women, this program changed its name in 2016 to be more inclusive of all gender identities. Steps is a program designed specifically to address the needs of domestic violence sufferers in the Chittenden County area. Domestic abuse may be physical, sexual, emotional, or economic, and the program assists victims in the transition to a safe and independent life. Howard Center for Human Services
The Howard Center provides professional crisis and counseling services to children and adults. These services cover a wide range of areas: the Center provides support for those struggling with substance abuse, intensive interventions for adults with mental health challenges, and supportive services to adults and youth with autism and developmental disabilities. The Howard Center operates on a core belief in human dignity and worth, as well as the human capacity for growth.

Spectrum Counseling
This program provides confidential screening, assessment and treatment of mental health and substance abuse for young adults and families, drug and alcohol testing, psychiatric assessment, DUI counseling, and assessing of medical services. All phone calls are confidential.

HOPE Works
HOPE Works is a Vermont nonprofit agency committed to serving survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones. Services include support groups, victim advocacy, medical advocacy, legal advocacy, housing, economic justice, one-on-one emotional support, and education in the community regarding sexual violence and healthy relationships. HOPE Works also operates a 24-hour hotline, providing emotional support and referrals to people in crisis. This hotline has existed since the agency was first formed in 1973.

Connecting Cultures
Connecting Cultures is the primary mental health service operated by the New England Survivors of Torture and Trauma organization, or NESTT. The program, launched in 2007 by graduate students at the University of Vermont Psychology Department, is specifically designed to provide clinical treatment to refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers who have experienced torture and psychological trauma. Treatment is holistic, culturally relevant, compassionate and client-centered.

Community Health Center of Burlington
The CHC provides mental health screenings, as well as counseling for depression, anxiety, stress, substance abuse, pain management and other mental health needs. Counseling may be conducted in groups or in a one-on-one setting.

Interpreters: The CHC has a telephone interpreting service with over 100 languages. It must be scheduled with John Bourgo 7 days before the visit.
Insurance: Accepts all forms of insurance including Medicaid, and the CHC of Burlington is the only local center which provides a sliding fee scale (patients pay what they can afford) for individuals without insurance, which results in many simple hospital visits only costing $6. For help with eligibility please contact Eva Bielser at (802) 864-6309 extension 166)
